Mendeleyevsk Map Poster & Print
Mendeleyevsk is a town in the north-east of Tatarstan, on the Kama river near the mouth of the Toyma and a short distance from Yelabuga. It grew up around chemical works that date back to the nineteenth century. In the Soviet era it took its present name in honour of the chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, a fitting choice for a town built on chemistry.
On a map the town is compact and orderly. A grid of residential blocks, many from the Soviet period, sits on higher ground above the river, with parks and schools between the buildings. Industrial sites fill a separate zone of large, simple shapes. Beyond the town the Kama spreads wide, and its broad water forms the map's natural edge.
A Mendeleyevsk map poster balances the precision of a planned industrial town with the breadth of one of Russia's great rivers. The regular blocks read clearly at small sizes. Large formats bring out the detail of the riverbank and the wooded valley of the Toyma along the edge of town.

Planned blocks
Residential districts are laid out in regular blocks with green courtyards. They are a clear example of Soviet-era planning and print crisply.
Industrial zone
The chemical works that gave the town its identity form a separate area of large rectangular outlines, set apart from the residential streets.
