Seen from above, Neapoli is part of the continuous urban fabric of Thessaloniki. It sits on the rising ground northwest of the historic centre, where the city starts to climb away from the Thermaic Gulf. Its streets are short and closely spaced, and the blocks are small. The neighbourhood grew quickly in the twentieth century as Thessaloniki expanded beyond its old walls. Today it shares a municipality with neighbouring Sykies.
