Olkusz lies in Lesser Poland, northwest of Kraków, on the Silesian-Kraków upland. The medieval town at its heart is easy to spot on the map. A rectangular market square sits at the centre of a compact grid laid out in the Middle Ages, and the curve of its former walls still shows in the streets around it.
