River valley
The Oltu River runs through the town and sets its direction. Houses and streets are packed along the valley floor, giving the poster a strong linear composition.

Oltu Map Poster & Print
Oltu is in Erzurum Province, in the highlands of northeastern Anatolia. The town follows the valley of the Oltu River, and its map is long and narrow. Streets run parallel to the water, and short lanes climb the lower slopes on either side. Beyond them, the steep, open hills leave wide empty spaces in the frame.
A castle stands above the town, one of the reminders that this valley has been a route between the Anatolian plateau and the Caucasus for centuries. The built-up area is compact and practical, shaped by the valley rather than by any plan. On a poster, the river and the main road read as one long axis.
The town gives its name to Oltu stone, a black, jet-like stone mined in the surrounding mountains and carved into prayer beads and jewellery. An Oltu map poster suits anyone connected to the town or the craft: a narrow valley town with a clear shape, set among large, quiet mountains.

Castle hill
A historic fortress stands on the high ground above the centre. The streets thin out as they climb toward it, leaving the hilltop visible as open space on the map.
Open slopes
Steep, largely treeless hills rise on both sides of the valley. They remain almost blank in print and frame the dense strip of town between them.
