Palma spreads along the curve of the Bay of Palma on the southwest coast of Mallorca. From above, the sea fills the bottom of the frame. The Passeig Marítim traces the waterfront, marinas and harbour moles jut into the bay, and the city fans inland across a gently rising plain toward the hills of the Serra de Tramuntana.
The old town is easy to spot. Its maze of narrow, winding medieval streets is enclosed by the ring of avenues, the Avingudes, that replaced the city walls.
