Paracuru lies on the coast of Ceará in northeastern Brazil, west of Fortaleza. From above, the map divides cleanly in two: on one side the Atlantic, on the other the town and the sandy country behind it. The coastline is the defining line, a long, gently curving edge where streets end and beaches begin.
The town itself is compact, laid out as a loose grid of short blocks near the sea, with a main road leading inland and newer streets spreading at the edges.
