Pengze is a county in the north of Jiangxi province, under the administration of Jiujiang, lying on the southern bank of the Yangtze River a little downstream from where Poyang Lake drains into it. The county town sits close to the river, and its map is shaped by the broad curve of the water, low hills and a scattering of lakes and ponds.
The name recalls Pengli Ze, an old name for the great lake system nearby, and the landscape remains closely tied to water.
