Pombal Map Poster & Print
Pombal lies in the semi-arid sertão of western Paraíba, in north-eastern Brazil, on the Piancó River not far from where it meets the Piranhas. On a map the town is compact, with a grid of streets near the riverbank and roads heading out across scrubland and small farms. The river corridor, often lined with greener ground, stands out against the dry surroundings.
Pombal is one of the older settlements of the Paraíba interior, with roots in the colonial cattle frontier that pushed inland along the rivers. Its central churches and squares recall that past. Today the town is a regional centre for trade, services and education in this part of the sertão.
A Pombal map poster frames the town as the sertão sees it: a dense cluster of streets beside the water, surrounded by space. The river curves across the sheet and the main highway draws a firm line. The rest of the design stays open and light, much like the country around it.

The Piancó
The river curves past the town toward its meeting with the Piranhas and adds long, sweeping lines to an otherwise sparse landscape.
Open sertão
Beyond the edge of town, roads and tracks stretch across dry country and leave large areas of white that emphasise how compact the town is.

People from the sertão often speak of home with a precise sense of place, and a map captures that better than a general image of the north-east. A poster of Pombal suits family homes in Paraíba and people who have moved to the coast or the south.
