Old town oval
The line of the former town walls survives as a ring of streets and green space. It encloses a small, dense medieval centre that stands out clearly on the map.

Ratingen Map Poster & Print
Ratingen sits just north of Düsseldorf, and on a map it is a place of clear contrasts. At its heart is a small medieval old town whose oval outline is still visible in the ring of streets and green space where the walls once stood, and some of the old towers survive. Around it, residential districts, business parks and the high-rise blocks of Ratingen West spread out in very different patterns.
The town has an unusual industrial past. Cromford, the textile mill Johann Gottfried Brügelmann founded here in the 1780s, is regarded as the first factory in continental Europe and takes its name from Richard Arkwright's mill in Derbyshire. The Anger stream runs past it through the town, and the Blauer See, a lake in a former quarry, adds water on the eastern side.
A Ratingen map poster shows all these layers at once: the compact oval core, the streams and woods, and the sweeping curves of the A3, A44 and A52 motorways around the town, with Düsseldorf Airport close by to the southwest. It is a portrait of a historic town absorbed into a modern metropolitan landscape.

Cromford mill
The late eighteenth-century textile works on the Anger, often called the first factory on the continent, stands in parkland just outside the old core.
Motorway frame
Several autobahns sweep around and through the town. Their long curves and interchanges draw bold lines between residential areas, forests and business districts.

Ratingen is often seen as just a Düsseldorf suburb, but the people who live here know its old town, lakes and woods well. A map poster gives the town an identity of its own, and the oval core makes a handsome centrepiece.
Change the title and subtitle, perhaps to a district such as Lintorf or Hösel, and edit the coordinates line. Pick one of five styles, from Paper to Noir, then download six print sizes or order a matte print from a print partner.
