The valley is narrow, with mountains rising on both sides, and the town spreads along the valley floor and up the lower slopes. The town's castle houses the Italian War History Museum, and Rovereto is also home to the MART, a major museum of modern and contemporary art. On a hill above the town hangs the Maria Dolens bell, cast from the metal of cannons and rung every evening in memory of the fallen of all wars.
