Sahoua lies in the Bas-Sassandra district in the southwest of Ivory Coast, in the humid forest zone between the Sassandra River and the Atlantic coast. From above, the settlement is a cluster of streets and plots along the main roads, surrounded by a wide landscape of plantations, farmland and remaining forest.
The Bas-Sassandra district is one of the most important cocoa-producing areas in Ivory Coast, the world's largest cocoa producer, and plantations shape much of the countryside around the towns in the region. Roads link the settlements with the port of San-Pédro to the south, through which much of the region's harvest is exported.
