San Bartolomé lies in the middle of Lanzarote, a short drive inland from Arrecife. The town itself is modest in size, a loose cluster of low, whitewashed houses on streets that follow the gentle rise and fall of the ground. Around it, the map opens into a landscape of farmed plots, dark volcanic soil and the rounded shapes of old volcanic cones.
The municipality runs from the interior down to the south coast at Playa Honda, and Lanzarote's airport lies within its boundaries.
