Sentani lies in the Indonesian province of Papua, west of the provincial capital Jayapura. It is the seat of Jayapura Regency. The town stretches along the northern shore of Lake Sentani, a large, irregular lake full of bays and islands. The steep, forested Cyclops Mountains rise sharply to the north.
Sentani is best known as the location of the main airport serving Jayapura. On a map its long, straight runway is one of the most prominent features.
