Sojat, often called Sojat City, lies in Pali district in the Marwar region of Rajasthan, on the dry plains between Jodhpur and the Aravalli hills. The old town is a compact tangle of narrow lanes and closely set houses, and on a map it appears as a dense, irregular core from which roads lead out to villages and neighbouring towns.
Around the town the land opens into fields and scrub, crossed by seasonal watercourses and village tracks.
