Stains is a commune in Seine-Saint-Denis, just north of Saint-Denis in the inner suburbs of Paris. It is a thoroughly urban place. From above, it is a tightly packed mix of older streets, large housing estates, small houses with gardens and green spaces, with neighbouring communes on every side.
The most distinctive part of the map is the Cité-jardin, a garden city built in the 1920s and 1930s to give workers decent housing.
