Thenkasi, also written Tenkasi, is a town in southern Tamil Nadu, close to the Kerala border, where the plains meet the Western Ghats. Its name means "Kasi of the south", and at its centre stands the Kasi Viswanathar Temple, whose tall gopuram is visible across the town.
