Triprangod lies in Malappuram district in northern Kerala, not far from Tirur. Like much of the Malabar coast, it does not have a compact centre. From above, houses are spread through coconut groves and garden plots, linked by narrow, winding lanes, with low-lying paddy fields and small water bodies in between.
The place is best known for the Thriprangode Shiva temple, an old temple associated in local tradition with the legend of Markandeya. Its compound is one of the few clearly defined forms in an otherwise continuous landscape of homes, trees and fields.
