Turek is in the eastern part of Greater Poland, in flat, open country between Poznań and Łódź. On the map, a small historic centre with a market square sits at the heart of the town. Around it are later housing estates with their regular blocks, and main roads lead out across the plain.
The town has two well-known industrial traditions. It was historically a weaving and textile town, and in the twentieth century the region was shaped by lignite mining and a large power station nearby.
