Vecsés is in Pest County, directly southeast of Budapest, next to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. On a map, that neighbour is impossible to miss. The town has a strong German heritage. It was settled by Danube Swabian families in the eighteenth century, and it is best known across Hungary for its sauerkraut, celebrated at an annual festival.
