Wałcz lies in the lake country of northern Poland, in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, and its map is shaped as much by water as by streets. The town spreads between several lakes, including Raduń and Zamkowe, so neighbourhoods follow shorelines and roads bend around the water. Wałcz is known for a major Olympic training centre used by Polish rowers, canoeists and other athletes, which makes full use of the surrounding lakes.
