Yutan is the main urban area of Ningxiang, a county-level city west of Changsha in Hunan province. From above, the town is split by the Wei River, which curves through its centre and is crossed by several bridges. Older, denser streets gather near the river, while newer districts with wider roads and larger blocks spread outward across low, gently rolling land.
As the seat of Ningxiang, Yutan has grown quickly alongside the wider Changsha region, with new residential areas, roads and industry.
