The railway spine
The railway runs straight through the town. It is the strongest single line on the map, and most residential streets are aligned either parallel or at right angles to it.

Zhukovka Map Poster & Print
Zhukovka is a small town in Bryansk Oblast, north-west of the regional capital, on the Desna River. The town developed around a railway station. From above you can still see this in the way the streets line up with the tracks, which cut a long, straight line through the built-up area and set its main orientation.
The Desna brings a softer element into the plan. Its meandering course and floodplain meadows contrast with the regular blocks of low-rise housing and the few larger apartment districts. Beyond the town, the map opens onto the forests and fields typical of the Bryansk region. Here the street grid thins out quickly into country roads.
A Zhukovka map poster brings these layers together. The rigid railway line, the grid of residential streets and the loose curves of the river each have their own visual weight. In monochrome the result looks almost like a diagram of how a provincial Russian town grew beside the railway and the water.

Desna river bends
The Desna loops past the town through a wide floodplain. Its curves and oxbows add an organic contrast to the orderly street pattern.
Low-rise grid
Much of Zhukovka is made up of small blocks of detached houses on straight streets. Together they create a fine, even texture across the centre of the print.
