Amboasary Map Poster & Print
Amboasary, often called Amboasary Sud, lies in the Anosy region of southern Madagascar, on the banks of the Mandrare River. The surrounding country is among the driest on the island. From above, the town is a modest grid of streets beside a wide, braided riverbed, with the national road passing through on its way west from Taolagnaro.
The area is known internationally for the Berenty Reserve, a private reserve on the Mandrare famous for its ring-tailed lemurs and gallery forest, set among large sisal plantations. Beyond the river, the south is marked by spiny forest, a dry type of vegetation found nowhere else in the world.
An Amboasary map poster centres on the meeting of town and river. The broad channel of the Mandrare, with its sandbars and shifting banks, dominates the composition. The streets form a compact grid on the shore, and straight plantation roads run into the nearby land. In black and white, it is a clear and unusual portrait of Madagascar's deep south.

The main road from Taolagnaro crosses the Mandrare near the town and continues west. It draws a strong line through the poster from one side to the other.
Plantation geometry
The sisal plantations near the river are laid out in long, straight rows and tracks. Their sharply regular pattern stands out against the dry country around them.
