An Khê Map Poster & Print
An Khê lies in Gia Lai province, at the eastern edge of Vietnam's Central Highlands. The town occupies a basin along the upper Ba River, with hills rising on every side. National Highway 19 passes through, linking the coast at Quy Nhơn with Pleiku on the plateau, and from above it forms the town's main axis.
To the east, the road crosses the An Khê pass, a winding climb that has long been an important route between the lowlands and the highlands. An An Khê map poster shows the straight line of the highway in town, the river curving nearby and a looser grid of streets filling in around them.
The area is closely associated with the Tây Sơn brothers, who began their eighteenth-century rebellion from this upland base before going on to unify much of Vietnam. Today the town is a local centre for farming and trade in a landscape of fields, forests and river valleys.
