Ar Ruways Map Poster & Print
Ar Ruways, usually written Ruwais, lies on the Gulf coast in the Al Dhafra region of the western part of Abu Dhabi emirate. It was built from the 1980s onward as a company town serving a large oil refining and petrochemical complex run by ADNOC. On a map, that origin is obvious: the town is planned, orderly and clearly divided into zones.
The industrial complex spreads along the coast as a large area of tanks, processing units and jetties. At a distance from it, the residential town is laid out as a neat grid of streets with housing, schools, mosques and parks. The main coastal highway to Abu Dhabi and toward Saudi Arabia runs just inland.
An Ar Ruways map poster shows a modern planned settlement set against open desert and a low, flat shoreline. The contrast between the regular street grid, the geometry of the industrial site and the empty land around them makes for a strikingly graphic print.
