Attendorn Map Poster & Print
Attendorn lies in the hills of the Sauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia and was a member of the Hanseatic League. From above, the old town is a compact oval of streets. It gathers around the large parish church of St John the Baptist, often called the Sauerland Cathedral. Wooded slopes rise steeply around the valley.
Just outside town is the Biggesee, one of the largest reservoirs in the region. Its winding arms and inlets reach into the forested hills and add broad, irregular water shapes to the map. Attendorn is also known for the Atta Cave, a large dripstone cave. Burg Schnellenberg, a hilltop castle, overlooks the surrounding valleys.
