Aveiro Map Poster & Print
Aveiro is on the bank of the Tapajós, one of the great clear-water tributaries of the Amazon, and on the map the river is far larger than the town. A short grid of streets runs back from the waterfront, then the land turns to forest and clearings. The broad sweep of the river fills much of the frame.
The municipality is best known for Fordlândia, the rubber plantation town that Henry Ford built in the late 1920s. It had American-style houses, a hospital and a water tower, but the rubber project failed within a few years. Its remains are still standing upriver, within Aveiro's territory.
