Dense town core
The centre is made up of narrow, irregular lanes between closely packed buildings. On the poster this creates a dark, intricate mass at the heart of the map.

关于地图
Awsīm Map Poster & Print
Awsīm lies in Giza Governorate, northwest of Cairo, on the western edge of the Nile Delta. From above, the town is a dense cluster of buildings and narrow streets surrounded by a fine patchwork of irrigated fields and canals. To the west, the green of the cultivated land gives way to desert. The boundary is sharp and easy to see from above.
The site has a very long history. In ancient times it was Letopolis, known in Egyptian as Khem, a cult centre of the god Horus and the capital of one of the nomes, or provinces, of Lower Egypt. Today Awsīm is an agricultural and market town that is being drawn more and more into the growth of Greater Cairo, with new buildings spreading along the main roads.
An Awsīm map poster shows a town defined by density and water. The irregular, close-packed streets of the centre contrast with the straight lines of the canals and field boundaries around it. Toward the edges of the frame, the change to open desert or to new development places the town clearly within the wider landscape of the Delta.

Canals and fields
Irrigation canals and small field plots surround the town in a fine grid. They show how intensively the land is farmed on the edge of the Delta.
Desert boundary
West of the cultivated land, the fields end and the desert begins. This sharp line between green and dry ground is one of the most striking features of the region.
