Bad Tölz Map Poster & Print
Bad Tölz lies on the Isar where the river leaves the Alpine foothills, about fifty kilometres south of Munich. The river divides the town, with the historic old town on the east bank and the spa quarter that grew on the west bank in the nineteenth century. Bridges, riverbanks and the hills on either side give the map a strong, readable structure.
The old town centres on the Marktstraße, a wide, sloping street of painted façades that climbs from the Isar bridge. Above the town stands the Kalvarienberg with its church and the Leonhardi chapel, the destination of the Leonhardifahrt, a procession of decorated horse-drawn carts held each November. Iodine-rich springs made the town a spa and gave it the prefix Bad.
