Banepā Map Poster & Print
Banepā lies in Kavrepalanchok district, a short distance beyond the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley, in a small basin surrounded by terraced hills. The Arniko Highway, which runs from Kathmandu toward the Tibetan border, passes through the town, and on a map it forms the strongest line, with newer buildings stretched along it and the older quarters set slightly apart.
The historic core is a Newar town of narrow lanes, brick houses and small squares, and its compact, irregular street pattern stands out clearly from the linear growth along the highway. Just outside the town, the Chandeshwori temple is one of the best-known sacred sites in the area and the focus of a long-standing local festival.
