Oued Béchar
The wadi that gave the town its name runs past the centre; on the map its course and the adjoining palm gardens form the one soft, organic line in an otherwise angular plan.

关于地图
Béchar Map Poster & Print
Béchar stands in the northern Sahara of southwestern Algeria, not far from the Moroccan border. On a map the town reads as a compact arrangement of blocks set on open, stony ground, with the course of the Oued Béchar running past the older quarters and a line of palm gardens marking where water has long been within reach. Beyond the last streets, the drawing falls almost silent.
Close to the town rises Djebel Béchar, a bare ridge that gives the setting its backdrop, and roads leave in a few long, straight strokes toward the rest of the country and the Saoura valley to the south. Under French rule the town was called Colomb-Béchar, and it grew as an administrative and military post before becoming the regional capital it is today.
Few places show the relationship between settlement and desert as plainly. A Béchar map poster lets the empty space do much of the work: a tight core of streets, the thin line of the wadi and its gardens reduced to black and white, and roads running out toward a horizon that the frame can only suggest.

Twentieth-century blocks
Much of the town was laid out in regular blocks during the colonial and post-independence decades, so large parts of the centre read as an orderly pattern of straight streets.
Desert roads
Highways leave Béchar in long, nearly straight lines across open ground, among them the route south toward the Saoura valley, and they give the composition its sense of scale.

为什么选Béchar
一张有意义的地图
Béchar is a place people carry with them after leaving: former residents, families of those who served or worked there, travellers who crossed the Sahara by road. A spare, graphic map suits that memory better than a photograph and works well in a bright, uncluttered room.
Sand is a natural choice here, though Noir gives the streets a strong night-time contrast. Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, then download the 300 DPI PNG and PDF files in six sizes for $9, or have it printed on matte paper by a partner near you.
