Bel Air is a barangay in Makati, in Metro Manila. Its map holds two very different kinds of city side by side. One part lies inside the business district, with tall buildings, large blocks and wide avenues. The other is Bel-Air Village, a residential subdivision of long gently curving streets, private gardens and a quiet that seems unlikely so close to the towers.
The contrast is clear from above. In the commercial part the blocks are big and the roads carry heavy traffic, while inside the village the streets are narrower and loop past rows of house lots. Jupiter Street runs along one edge and has become known for its restaurants, a busy seam between the two worlds.
