Białogard Map Poster & Print
Białogard sits on the Parsęta River in West Pomerania, some 25 kilometres inland from the Baltic coast. From above, the old town is easy to find. It is a compact oval of streets around a market square, bounded by a green belt where the medieval walls once ran. The river curves along one side and railway lines fan out from the station.
It is one of the oldest towns in Pomerania and received town rights in 1299. A Gothic church and a surviving gate tower remain from the medieval period. Later, the town became an important railway junction, and the tracks leaving in several directions are a clear feature of its map. Former Polish president Aleksander Kwaśniewski was born here.
A Białogard map poster balances three elements: the tight medieval core, the winding Parsęta and the long straight lines of the railways. The river loops past the town on its way to the Baltic at Kołobrzeg. Its soft curves contrast with the straight railway lines nearby.
Railway junction
Several lines meet at Białogard's station and spread outward across the landscape. They give the map strong diagonal strokes that are unusual for a town of its size.
