River confluence
The Vorona joins the Khopyor next to the town. On the map, the two rivers form a clear fork that frames the settlement from the south and east.

关于地图
Borisoglebsk Map Poster & Print
Borisoglebsk stands in the east of Voronezh Oblast, where the Vorona River flows into the Khopyor, and that confluence is the key to its map. The town sits on the higher ground above the rivers, with a regular grid of streets laid out in the manner of many provincial Russian towns. Below it, the floodplains spread out into oxbow lakes, meadows and woodland.
It was founded at the end of the seventeenth century as a frontier fortress on the steppe. Later it became known for its military aviation school, which trained generations of pilots. Downstream, the Khopyor Nature Reserve protects a long stretch of the river's floodplain forest.
A Borisoglebsk map poster contrasts two landscapes. The ordered grid of the town sits against the loose, curving forms of the rivers and their old channels. In black and white, the oxbows and meanders turn into delicate shapes around the edges of a very orderly settlement.

Provincial grid
The town centre follows a regular grid of long straight streets and square blocks, a plan typical of Russian provincial towns laid out in earlier centuries.
Oxbow floodplain
Around the rivers, abandoned meanders and small lakes cut into the floodplain. They create curved open shapes that soften the edges of the print.
