Borna Map Poster & Print
Borna lies south of Leipzig in Saxony, in a landscape long shaped by lignite mining. The town has a compact historic centre with a market square and a ring of old streets, surrounded by later residential and industrial districts. On several sides, the map shows large lakes formed in former open-cast mines, part of what is now called the Leipzig New Lakeland.
Mining transformed the area for most of the twentieth century and wiped out several nearby villages. One of their churches, the medieval Emmaus church from Heuersdorf, was moved in one piece to Borna in 2007 and now stands in the town centre. It is a well-known example of how the region has dealt with its mining past.
A Borna map poster shows both chapters of this history. The old centre forms a dense, rounded core, and the Wyhra passes close by. The lakes appear as large, smooth-edged shapes that contrast sharply with the fine street pattern. This is a landscape that people have remade, and the map shows it clearly.

Former open-cast pits nearby have been flooded to form large lakes. Their smooth, engineered outlines are the most distinctive shapes on the poster.

The small Wyhra river runs past the town through a green corridor. It adds a soft natural line between the historic centre and newer districts.
