Contour-following roads
With hilly ground all around, streets bend with the terrain instead of running straight. The result is a loose, organic web that looks almost hand-drawn in fine black line.

关于地图
Brades Map Poster & Print
Brades is the de facto capital of Montserrat, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It took on that role after eruptions of the Soufrière Hills volcano in the 1990s forced the abandonment of Plymouth, the former capital in the south. Government functions moved to the safer north of the island, and Brades, once a modest village, became the administrative centre almost by necessity.
From above, there is no grid and no clear centre. Roads follow the contours of the hills, curving and splitting to reach houses scattered along the slopes. Nearby Little Bay, on the northwest coast, has been planned as the site of a new capital and port, so the map captures a place still in the middle of rebuilding its geography.
A Brades map poster is a small, intimate composition: a web of winding lanes, the coastline close at hand and the island's northern hills around it. For Montserratians at home and in the diaspora, and for anyone who knows the story of the volcano, it records the part of the island where everyday life carried on.

Little Bay nearby
The bay just north-west of Brades is the focus of plans for a new town centre and port, and its curve of shoreline gives the map a clear edge toward the sea.
A capital by relocation
Brades became the seat of government after Plymouth was abandoned. Its small footprint on the map is a direct trace of that move from the volcanic south to the north.

为什么选Brades
一张有意义的地图
Montserrat's story is one of a community that stayed and rebuilt. A map of Brades is a way to hold on to that, whether for a family that left during the evacuations, a returning resident or a visitor who remembers the drive up through the northern hills.
Set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 download includes six sizes as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files without a watermark, and printed posters on matte paper can be ordered with a wooden frame.
