Chākan Map Poster & Print
Chākan sits north of Pune on the highway to Nashik, and the map shows two layers of its history side by side. At its centre is the old town: a tight tangle of lanes around a market area. Around that, over the past few decades, industrial estates have spread across the plateau. Their large rectangular plots, wide service roads and factory footprints look nothing like the older streets.
The town is closely tied to Fort Sangramdurg, a small fort remembered for its long defence in 1660 by Firangoji Narsala against a much larger Mughal army. Today Chākan is better known as one of India's major automotive manufacturing centres, with several large vehicle makers building here. It is also known for its busy agricultural market, especially for onions.
A Chākan map poster therefore holds a clear contrast. The organic old core sits on one side, and the large grid of industrial parcels spreads out on the other, with the highway running between them.
