Chascomús Map Poster & Print
Chascomús lies on the pampas south of Buenos Aires, on the shore of the Laguna de Chascomús, a broad shallow lake that is part of a chain of lagoons in the region. From above, the town is almost defined by the water: the grid of streets runs up to the shoreline, and a lakeside road follows the curve of the lagoon.
The town was founded in 1779 as a frontier fort, and it later became one of the older settlements of Buenos Aires province. The plan shows the typical Argentine grid, with square blocks laid out around a central plaza and quintas and farmland beyond. Chascomús is popular for rowing, fishing and weekend visits from the capital.
A Chascomús map poster makes the lagoon the dominant shape, a smooth open field against the tight rhythm of the blocks. In black and white the contrast is striking, and the flat roads leading off into the surrounding countryside give the edges of the print a sense of distance.
