Cherukunnu is in Kannur district, in northern Kerala, a short distance inland from the Arabian Sea coast. It is best known for the Sree Annapoorneshwari Temple, a place of pilgrimage for people across the region. Like much of rural Kerala, it doesn't have a hard edge; houses spread continuously through groves and gardens.
On the map, that spread becomes a fine, branching network. A few roads carry through traffic, and a dense mesh of small lanes leads off to houses set among coconut palms. Waterways and low-lying fields add another layer, with creeks and backwater channels winding through the land between the higher, built-up ground.
