Appomattox River
The river runs along the southern edge and separates the city from Petersburg. Several bridges cross it, and the water forms the strongest boundary on the map.

关于地图
Colonial Heights Map Poster & Print
Colonial Heights is an independent city in Virginia, just north of Petersburg across the Appomattox River. The river forms its southern edge and is the most prominent natural feature on the map, a wide band with bridges linking the two cities. From there, streets spread north over gently rolling ground, mostly in the looser, curving pattern of twentieth-century residential neighbourhoods.
Interstate 95 runs north–south through the city, and the retail areas along the Boulevard and around Southpark Mall follow its corridor. The area also has Civil War history: during the siege of Petersburg, Confederate commander Robert E. Lee used a house at Violet Bank as his headquarters for a period. Swift Creek and its lake shape the northern part of the city.
A Colonial Heights map poster shows a small city with clear borders: river to the south, interstate through the middle, water and woodland to the north. In black and white, the contrast between the old riverside streets and the winding suburban roads comes through clearly.

I-95 corridor
The interstate cuts through the city from north to south. Its long, clean line and interchanges give the map a clear central axis.
Curving subdivisions
Much of the residential area is laid out in cul-de-sacs and winding streets. These form a soft, looping pattern around the older, straighter blocks.
