Condeúba lies in the southwest of Bahia, on the upland sertão close to the border with Minas Gerais. It is a small town serving a large rural municipality. On the map it appears as a compact grid of streets in open country, among pastures, scrub, small farms and unpaved roads that lead to neighbouring communities and districts.
The region is semi-arid, with rain concentrated in a short wet season, and the countryside shows it in seasonal streams, small reservoirs and ponds, and farmland arranged around access to water. Cattle raising and family farming have long supported the local economy, and the roads radiating from the town show how widely the rural population is spread.
