Corsicana Map Poster & Print
Corsicana is the seat of Navarro County in north-central Texas, about an hour's drive south of Dallas. Its map is classic Texas town planning. A grid of streets is centred on the courthouse square, with the older commercial blocks downtown and residential streets extending outward in regular rows toward the edges of town.
Railroads shaped Corsicana from its early decades, and their lines still cross the grid at angles, breaking up its regularity and creating odd-shaped blocks where they meet the streets. Interstate 45, the route between Dallas and Houston, passes along the edge of town, and beyond it the map opens onto farmland and ranch country.
In 1894, drillers searching for water in Corsicana struck oil instead, and the find led to the first commercially significant oil field in Texas, years before Spindletop. The town is also known for the Collin Street Bakery and its fruitcakes, shipped around the world. A Corsicana map poster shows the grid, the rail lines and the square at the centre of it all.

Rail lines cross the town at angles to the street grid, drawing strong diagonal strokes and leaving irregular blocks wherever they cut through the regular streets.

The highway between Dallas and Houston skirts the town in a long, smooth line that contrasts with the right angles of the older grid.
