Cutral-Có Map Poster & Print
Cutral-Có lies on the Patagonian steppe in the province of Neuquén, west of the city of Neuquén. The land is dry, open and fairly flat. On a map, the town forms a compact grid of streets, and it runs directly into its twin town, Plaza Huincul, along the main highway. Around them, the steppe stretches in every direction, crossed by roads and tracks.
The two towns grew from the oil industry. Oil was found near Plaza Huincul in 1918, one of Argentina's earliest discoveries, and the area became a centre of production and refining. The name Cutral-Có comes from the Mapuche language and is usually translated as water of fire, a reference to the oil found beneath the ground.
