Dakoro is the main town of a department in the Maradi Region of southern Niger, in the Sahel, where farmland gives way to pastoral rangeland further north. On the map it appears as a spread of low compounds and sandy lanes on flat ground. A few main roads cross it, and the settlement fades out into open terrain.
The town is a market and meeting point for farmers and herders from a wide area, and its layout reflects that role, with roads and tracks converging on the centre from several directions. Beyond the edge of town the map is almost empty. There are scattered villages and rural routes, but no dense street networks.
