Rudnaya River valley
The river and the town share the same narrow valley floor, so streets, rail lines and water run in parallel through the frame and give the map a strong sense of direction.

关于地图
Dalnegorsk Map Poster & Print
Dalnegorsk lies in eastern Primorye, in the folds of the Sikhote-Alin range, a short distance inland from the Sea of Japan. Until 1972 it was called Tetyukhe. The town has no room to spread sideways, so it stretches along the valley of the Rudnaya River as a long ribbon of streets squeezed between steep, wooded slopes. On a map the effect is linear, almost like a river in its own right.
Mining made the town. Dalnegorsk grew around deposits of lead, zinc and boron, and it became Russia's main source of boron. Among mineral collectors the name is famous for the crystal specimens that came out of its mines. These industries show up on the map as broad, open sites and service roads, set against the tighter blocks of the residential districts.
Mapped in monochrome, the valley becomes the whole composition: a thin band of streets, the river threading beside it, and blank terrain rising on either side. A Dalnegorsk map poster shows how completely geography can dictate the shape of a place. The road running down toward the coast gives the design a natural direction for the eye to follow.

Mountain edges
Forested ridges of the Sikhote-Alin press close on both sides. On the poster they read as calm, empty space, which makes the thin line of settlement look even more deliberate.
Industrial districts
Mining and processing sites form larger, looser shapes along the valley, a reminder of the lead, zinc and boron industries the town was built on.

为什么选Dalnegorsk
一张有意义的地图
Many people who grew up in Dalnegorsk now live far from Primorye, and a map of the valley is a simple, honest reminder of home. Mineral collectors and geologists may also like a print of a town whose name they know from specimen labels.
