Dorking sits in the Mole Valley in Surrey, where the River Mole cuts a gap through the chalk ridge of the North Downs. From above, the town's centre lies along an old east–west route, with the High Street, West Street and South Street meeting in a compact core, and residential roads climbing the slopes to the south.
North of the town, Box Hill rises steeply above the river and is among the best-known viewpoints in southeast England. On the slopes just outside town lies Denbies, one of the largest vineyards in the country. The Pipp Brook runs through the town towards the Mole.

The steep chalk slope rises just north of town, above the River Mole. Its winding road, known to cyclists, adds a distinctive zigzag to the map.
Denbies vineyard
Wide vineyard slopes lie on the edge of town towards the Downs. In black and white they form a large open area crossed by a few tracks.
