Dubrovnik Map Poster & Print
Dubrovnik's historic centre is one of the most recognisable shapes on the Adriatic coast. A ring of stone walls encloses the old town on a rocky promontory, with the straight line of the Stradun running through the middle. Narrow stepped lanes climb away from it on either side, and the old harbour tucks into the eastern edge of the walls.
Behind the city, Mount Srđ rises steeply, and roads and a cable car climb it toward the fort at the summit. To the west, the Lapad peninsula and the port of Gruž spread along the coast, and the Franjo Tuđman Bridge spans the inlet beyond. The old town was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, and its walls have been restored since the 1990s.

The main street runs straight across the old town between the city gates. The stepped lanes branching off it form a comb-like pattern to the north and south.
Lokrum and the coast
The wooded island of Lokrum sits just off the old harbour, and to the west the coast breaks into the Lapad and Gruž peninsulas and inlets.
