Earl Shilton is a town in Leicestershire, in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth, a short distance northeast of Hinckley. It grew from a village with medieval roots into an industrial settlement, where framework knitting, hosiery and footwear manufacturing shaped its streets and brought much of its growth in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
On the map, the older part of town follows a main road with side streets branching off it. Around this core, twentieth-century housing estates bring more regular patterns of crescents and cul-de-sacs. Beyond them lie the fields and hedgerows of the Leicestershire countryside. The Bosworth Field area, where the 1485 battle is remembered, lies a few miles to the northwest.
