El Pueblito is the seat of the municipality of Corregidora, directly southwest of the city of Querétaro, and today the two form one continuous urban area. From above, you can still see the difference. A small, older centre with a church and a square sits among new subdivisions, highways and curving residential streets that have spread quickly over the past decades.
The place is much older than its suburbs. The archaeological site of El Cerrito, with its large pre-Hispanic pyramid, stands on the edge of town and was a ceremonial centre long before the Spanish arrived. The town's church also draws pilgrims to its venerated image of the Virgin of El Pueblito.
