Elmalı Map Poster & Print
Elmalı sits on a high plateau in the western part of Antalya province, far above the Mediterranean coast. The town lies at the foot of mountains, with its older quarters on the slopes and newer streets extending onto the flatter plain below. Orchards and fields surround it on the upland basin. The name comes from the Turkish word for apple, and the area is known for its apple orchards.
The old town contains traditional timber-framed houses and the Ömerpaşa Mosque, a notable Ottoman-era building. Nearby lies Lake Avlan, a shallow lake on the plain. The combination of mountain slopes, orchards and a historic centre gives Elmalı a character quite different from the beach resorts along the coast of the same province.
